I went by the size chart and got a L which is supposed to fit a waist from 34-38. That did seem like a broad range but I assumed the stretch of the fabric would make it work. I wear a size 36 waist and these are extremely snug. I can still wear them due to how short they are. The leg is loose and not constrictive which is good. They seem well made and the zippered pockets are a nice touch. Recommend but I suggest upping a size.
